I've started looking for a VHS portable recorder and camera and would like to know if anyone has had any experience with the units I'm considering. I've narrowed the field to either the Panasonic pv8500 recorder with the PK958 or WV3230-8 camera or the RCA vkp900 with the cc019. The important features I'm looking for are good special effects(still, single frame advance, slow-mo, etc.) on the recorder and low-light,power zoom, auto focus, and remote recorder control (I want to review what I've recorded with the viewfinder). I'm not really sure what low light means since the only references I could find were from a physics book that gave .5lux='moonlit night, 50 lux= 60watt bulb at 1 meter, and 10 exp5 lux=sun at noon. In particular, can someone give me an example of the difference between 10 and 30 lux. I'll be using the unit for 'family' recording indoors and sporting events (I'd like to record our high school football team 'under the lights'). The mail order prices I've seen on these units look like they're in the 1600-1900 range. Any mail order places I should stay away from or ones you would recommend? How important is it to have the extra battery pack, ac adapter? Any recommendations on cases? Jim Morehouse ATT&T Bell Laboratories Allentown, Pa. aluxz!ejag 215 770 2233

I've also been looking into the Panasonic portable tape decks. But I've been told to wait for the new 9600 deck. Its suppose to be really good. But that's the only info I have.
