[] Are there any VHS machines out there which can scan in fast forward? If not, I would be interested in how people skip commercials and other such nonsense. And since cost has come up wrt Sony VCRs here is what I purchased recently: Sony 2415 $550 Front loading, cable ready (select 14 of ~100 channels) Full featured remote control 4 Event 21 day timer with voice ("Timer recording has begun..") Has anyone purchased a VCR (Beta or VHS) with the above features for under $500? I didn't shop around too much.

You obviously didn't shop around too much for VHS machines. Everyone I talked video with here (~ eight people), own VHS machines and we all have FF scan.

REFERENCE: <979@ut-ngp.UUCP> Our older top-of-the-line VHS machine has fast-scan in addition to fast-forward (in all speeds although the LP speed is only at 4.5x instead of 9x) Our newer basic machine still has it, but you get fairly bad picture breakup at both SP and LP; it really only works at SLP. All newer models have fast-scan at SLP so far as I know. I suspect that 4-head models have it at SP (guessing here). Since pre-recorded tapes are recorded at SP, it sure would be nice if the machines gave you the special features at that speed as well as SLP (which most people use because it's cheapest in terms of tape).
