When is it useful to filter out >> high frequencies? MPX refers to the system of decoding stereo signals from either FM radio or stereo TV into the left and right channels. On your unit, the MPX output jack is to allow addition of an adapter such that a stereo audio signal from the VCR's tuner can be decoded into left and right channels for feeding to your sound system or back into the VCR for recording on the BETA HI-FI system. The MPX system uses a high frequency pilot tone which has the nasty side effect of messing up DOLBY noise reduction. It also seems to cause trouble for the HI-FI system. The filter should be used between your FM tuner and VCR if you plan to use the VCR to record music from your tuner. I suspect that the filter will also be necessary for the above described use of the stereo tv adapter when they become available. Raan Young (hp-pcd!raan)
