[net.video] Desperate need for VCR advice !!!!!

Look, despite what some might think, a company as big as Panasonic
is not going to design and sell <anything> that doesn't work. You
said it yourself: the slow and pause were jittery, but you didn't really
care. So you've seen the penalty for two heads in VHS and, if you
believe what you say, you don't care. My advice to you (after suggesting
beta hi-fi (which marks me as a real dolt)) would be to buy it and take
your savings and run.

Yes yes..i have a story.

I own a Panasonic PV-1730 VHS HiFi VCR that i purchased 8-84. Supposedly
it was (and close to is) one of the top decks on the market. It has many
fling features(which i do use often) scuh as slow reverse, frame advance,
3 fast search/advance modes ,superb remote control unit and so on and blah
blah blah... Though sarcastic, it is has exceeded many of my expecations..
...a rare thing with my attitude. I was satisfied until 3 days ago.

I left my VCR in RECORD and went to work(as i do most the time) and when
returned at lunch, my VCR had stopped! Yes it was broken. I found that
either the capstan motor(moves the tape in PLAY or RECORD) would not move.
Either the motor was dead or voltages to the various motor speeds were
opened. There is a 3 months labor and 1 year parts warranty. Im at 6 months.
I knew what to fix but, i could not repair it myself for the parts warranty
would be nulled and i would have to pay for the parts. BUT i could pay for
labor and the parts would be free. SO i took it to a authorized shop to be
repaired for a fixed 69.95 price for whatever is wrong. Something so large
or often used should(?) not go out so soon, but life is life and electronics
are usually that way.

One more item is that i use my VCR CONSTANTLY ,a lot and very much. I figured
approximately how many buttons i pushed to do functions(not change channels).
It was a little over 16,000 or 16K singluar pushes. True true true.

There's no moral here but i would still recommend to anyone to buy the same
model i have for the HiFi sound is better than any other audio devices i have.
