I think the idea of releasing wide screen format movies on tape or even broadcast is a great idea. If they are put on tape squeezed and the vertical size control on the TV is used to shrink the picture back into its normal aspect ratio, all 525 scan lines will be available (or at least all the viewable ones), giving better resolution than if the bottom and top of the picture were blanked out, which is a current method. Another idea is to put subtitles for foreign films below the whole picture, into the blanked out area, for widescreen format films. -- Anthony Albert ..!ucbvax!albert albert@ucbvax.ARPA
