Why do most VCRs include such terrible tuners ? Most VCR's that I have seen in the stores locally have all tried to put features in the "tape" section of the unit. There is HI-FI, Dolby NR, 4/5 Head machines, but most of these things have those crappy tuners where you get about 15 preset channels which you have to manually tune in the the proper station. Most cheap TVs have better tuners than this, even the cheap Korean and Tawain models. My VCR is a Zenith 4 Head model with direct access tuning,(no little cover to remove to tune stations). Although I know that most of the machine is made by JVC, I have not seen a JVC machine with direct access tuning. The tuner inside the VCR is better than the one inside my TV(Ward's) plus I get the added convenience of being able to change channels by remote control. It is supposed to be able to access 158 channels, but I haven't figured out how. One question for the Hi-Fi owners out in netland, since some of you guys are using your machines for audio, Are you recording all your own tapes or is there pre-recorded stuff availible?
