Here's a lineup of Sony's VCRs, as best as I can recall. Neither Hi-Fi nor SuperBeta: SL-10 No frills, not cable compatible, wired remote SL-20 Same as SL-10 but wireless remote SL-30 Same as SL-20 but cable compatible (105 channels) SL-60 Same as SL-30 plus clear freeze-frame and step SL-90 Same as SL-60 plus direct access tuner. 181 channels. Hi-Fi but not SuperBeta SL-HF300 Same as SL-30, but with Hi-Fi and MPX out SL-HF500 Same as SL-HF300 but with clear freeze frame and step SL-2700 The platinum standard in VCRs for 2 years, but will soon be edged out by the SL-HF900. Direct access to 105 channels, 1/10, 1/5, 1X, 2X play in forward and reverse, 2X forward with sound in Hi-Fi, MPX out, more Hi-Fi "ready" but not SuperBeta SL-HFR30 Same as SL-30 but accepts separate HFP-100 processor to make it into a Beta Hi-Fi deck. One notable difference from SL-HF300 is no MPX jack. Note that you could also use new HFP-200 processor and get MTS stereo. SL-HFR60 Same idea as SL-HFR30, but based on SL-60. SL-HFR90 Ditto, but SL-90 SuperBeta and Hi-Fi Ready SL-HFR70 Similar to SL-HFR30 but with SuperBeta SuperBeta Hi-Fi SL-HF400 Similar to SL-HF300 but with SuperBeta SL-HF600 Similar to SL-90 but with Hi-Fi and SuperBeta SL-HF900 The new "top-of-the-line". I haven't seen one of these close up, but I'll bet people will be raving about it just like the SL-2700. Claims to have the best special effects and editing features of any 1/2" VCR. I think there's also a "just SuperBeta" model, but I forget its number. Anyway, SuperBeta is already in the stores, and there are good deals on the older models available. Steve
