YES! There is in fact at least one company that is offering pre-
recorded audio only Beta or VHS hi-fi tapes. They are:

They have a catalog ($1.00) and newsletter which describes their
recordings and philosophy. Such as: all recordings PCM mastered, two
Schoeps microphones only, no compression, limiting, or equalization,
little or no editing within a track, real time duplication, and many
other audio purist delights.
Their own recordings are largely classical, but do include some
jazz and more popular things. They are also licensed to reproduce
recordings from digital and tape masters from several esoteric re-
cording companies such as: Titanic, AKFA, and Centaur. They have
added some new ones, but I don't have the latest catalog in front of
me.
hey offer several formats: open reel,audio cassettes, PCM
digital cassettes, and Beta/VHS hi-fi. They will configure these in
many different ways, depending on your needs.
I have ordered one tape from them and am very pleased at the
quality of the sound. NOTE: There is NO video! Prices are not
low, but relatively compatible with audiophile recordings and
a bit more than CDs (I think). Remember, you can get a LOT of time
on one video cassette.
