[net.video] Greatly Enhanced Picture on VCRs

km@emory.UUCP (Ken Mandelberg) (07/15/85)

Here is quote from an article on VCRs in the July 15 Wall
Street Journal:

"Before the end of the year, suppliers are expected to
introduce higher priced units with features that greatly
enhance the picture. The improvements will result from
signal-processing technology borrowed from the broadcast
industry, says David Lachenbruch, editorial director of
Television Digest.."

Does anyone know anything specific about this? It couldn't
be refering to Super Beta (which has already been introduced
and is not confined to higher price units). It must be
refering either to the Super VHS development rumored a while
back, or perhaps some 8mm developments.

******

There is also another quote from Lachenbruch in the article:
"..manufacturers are expending tremendous amounts of effort to
make VCRs simpler to operate in terms of programming the
machines to record unattended."

I also wonder whats coming here. Perhaps a smarter version of
the on screen programming feature some VCRs have now??

*******

The bulk of the article is really about the price war especially
at the bottom end of the VCR line.
