I want to buy a VCR, so for the last week or so I've been trying to educate myself about the various models available, i.e. features vs. prices. I must admit I'm rather surprized how difficult it is to get such information. Sales people in stores are not to helpful; all stores I went to are out of the manufacturer's brochures which list the models and their features; and the 4 or 5 video magazines I bought, even though they do review 2 or 3 models, still don't provide enough info. So, where do I get such information from ? Should I write or call the manufacturers ? (Where do I find the right addresses or phone numbers?) Is there anybody out there who has a "canonical" list of VCRs and their features ? I'm interested in the Hi-Fi stereo VHS machines. Also, I was planning to mail order whatever I decide to buy. Anybody had any major problem in ordering a VCR ? (I've been buying photo stuff by mail for years without problems.) Thanx for any help.

Order the RCA catalogue through the mail. They give a good description of their whole line of products which will give you a pretty good idea as to what's out there. I think the RCA 950 is the best unit of its kind available. In addition, you should go to a variety of dealers.
