[If you can read this line, the line eater I am thinking about getting a satellite dish. The particular packages I have looked into so far are Uniden 6000 with Positioner & remote control 100 degree LNB (I think) Chaparral Polarotor (I think) 9.5ft mesh dish cable kit $2000 PLUS installation (~400) and M/A Com H-1 also with Positioner & remote control 100 degree LNB M/A Com Omnirotor 10.5 ft Raydx mesh dish cable kit. $2600 PLUS installation (~400) Both of these should be adequate to receive all satellites visible at this location, and both are pretty highly rated by STV magazine. I am interested in comments from those who may have these systems, particularly in the following areas:- 1) the prices seem about reasonable for this area and quality of equipment. Comments? 2) I would like to install the stuff myself, although I plan to let the dealer do the site survey since its cheap ($35). My degree is in EE, I have designed an built various electronic equipment (but nothing in the microwave band), and I have read some material on the subject. Anyone else tried this? Are there some reference works which might be helpful? 3) Since I am interested in picking up some of the audio services like WFMT, I need discrete stereo, tunable audio, and narrow/wide band audio switching. This is one of the reasons for looking at these two systems. Anybody used alternatives, such as stereo adapters on good mono systems? 4) Are there other receivers I should look at? 5) Probably most importantly, what about long-term reliability and ease of use of these two systems? Please mail responses to me at the address below. I will summarize if the number of responses warrants. -- Gene Mutschler {ihnp4 seismo ctvax}!ut-sally!batman!gene Burroughs Corp.
