Let SL(n,R) be the special linear group of nxn matrices over the real numbers and SL(n,Z) be the same except over the integers. What is SL(n,R)/SL(n,Z)? If n=2 then quotient is supposedly homeomorphic as a manifold to the complement of a trefoil. What happens when n > 2?
