Sams Photofact is still actively published, although I think the cost per booklet is more like $10 now. Booklets cover about 3 items, which are completely unrelated (RCA TV, Mitsubishi VCR, GE Toaster Oven). Smaller brands of imports are not always covered, although I think I have seen Gold Star and other recent Taiwanese and Korean trade names. Most Japanese brands are covered. If they don't have your model, often the same unit may be known by another name. For example, a given Japanese made VCR is often sold, in slightly different color schemes, by say Panasonic, Magnovox, Fisher, and a few other labels. I don't know a good way to find out equivalencies. If it is a current model, you might look in dealer showrooms. Models that have identical controls in identical locations, and identical features, are generally identical on the inside too. Sams is sold in major electronic parts stores that cater to repair shops. If you are at a loss to find one, here is one local to me that has about 15 5-drawer file cabiniets full of Sams: Electronic Trading Post 4357 Sepulveda Bl Culver City, CA 213/391-6763 Mark LaCasse qantel!hplabs!sdcrdcf!randvax!lacasse c/o The Rand Corporation cbosgd!ihnp4!sdcrdcf!randvax!lacasse 1700 Main Street lacasse@Rand-Unix Santa Monica, CA 90406 213/393-0411 ext. 7420
