Personally, I have had good experience with three brands. They are: Maxell HGX Gold Sony UHG (Gold box) TDK Super Avilyn ??? (highest grade) I have been very pleased with the image quality of all three of these brands at all speeds. I use both a Beta (Sony-2700) and a VHS (Panasonic PV-1730) so I speak of both tape formats. I only have a few VHS tapes of the TDK Avilyns and have had no Beta experience with them. I currently only purchase the Maxell HGX Gold tapes for both formats in case lots [lots cheaper (-:] since they have proven to be pleasing to me and sufficient for my own uses (mostly TV recording for delayed playback). Since just changing to different equipment might make a difference (but I don't know why it should), others may find this not to be their "best" combination. I suggest you try two or three tapes of different brands in your own machine(s) and see what makes you happy. Pay particular attention to the picture quality at still/slow frame speeds. ...!ihnp4!sys1!sysvis!george
