[net.video] Stereo TV complaint

In my earlier response to Dick Granges' complaint about WNBC's broadcast
of a stereo signal, I missed an obvious clue in his note. He said that when
he turned on his decoder that he got the TV audio in one channel, and
WNBC-FM in the other. This is not possible to do with the "main" audio
channel, as the stereo signal consists of a Left+Right signal (what
non-MTS TVs decode), and a L-R signal. If the station was really
broadcasting one program on the left channel and another on the right,
mono TVs would hear garbage.

What I think has happened is that Dick's decoder is set to the "both"
position. My decoder, along with most others, has an option where you
can hear mono in one channel and SAP (secondary audio program) in the
other. I have heard elsewhere that WNBC broadcasts their FM station in
the SAP signal. Dick should check the settings on his decoder to make
sure he is listening to "main" and not "both".
