[net.video] Composite out==> RGB in

A while ago I posted a query to the net regarding driving the
RGB input of my pc monitor from the composite output of my VCR.

There were a few requests to summarize the results to the net.
Follows is the only response I got.

>What you need is a subset of any color TV, since broadcasts
>are composite and ALL color CRTs are RGB.
>You need a little box containing a chroma demodulator IC
>and a "matrix" of resistors (usually part of the IC these
>days) and a DC power source for it. You'd think by now
>somebody would sell such a beast.  Look for it;
>you'll get a hell of a picture!  mike k

I asked an analog hack what the previous meant and then did
some looking around... couldn't find a chip that had the matrix
onboard but there are plenty of chroma demodulators. Unfortunately
it doesn't look like it is quite as easy as wiring up a digital
clock (my only ever piece of hardware experience).

Anyway, does anyone out there in net land have any further
comments on this? Is there such a box ready made? How about
even a schematic? Some of the app notes associated with the
chips I looked at seemed to indicate that just the chip and
a DC supply wouldn't quite be adequate to do the job. Any
ideas?

                                    thanks in advance...
