The following is being posted for a fellow employee. His address is ...ihnp4!whwpd!cag: I recently bought an RCA model FLR 2022T TV/monitor, which is great except for one thing: when certain tapes are broadcast (e.g. news clips, sports highlights), vertical edges in the picture generate a whole series of echoes (up to about 6) as if a circuit is ringing. You wouldn't believe what Yankee pinstripes do to the picture! These echoes are fairly close- spaced, but easily resolvable. This only happens on tape transmissions, and live broadcasts are crisp and clean. I suspect some sort of interaction of the taped signal with the comb filter in the video circuit, but that's only a guess. The effect is the same if I take the video output from the tuner in my VCR and feed it directly into the monitor output. On the other hand, if I split the RF signal and simultaneously view it on another TV (without a comb filter, but with good horizontal resolution), there is just a hint of echoes on the other TV while they're still bad on the RCA. I've spoken to several friends with comparable model RCA sets, and they haven't seen any such problem. Since the warranty has just run out, I'm not anxious to bring a serviceman out without a clear demonstration of a fault. Murphy's Law would assure that he would only see clear live pictures. Has anyone else seen such a problem, or have an idea on what might cause it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carl A. Giffels :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
