I have an ad from TEAC in front of me (pg 101, Measurement & Control News, Oct '85) that shows (among others) their "14-channel XR-510 VHS videocassette data recorder". Anybody know what format of recording is used on these? Is it fourteen linear tracks running longitudinally down the tape? Or do they use some variant of the helical-scan video-recording methodology? If they DO use longitudinal tracks, anybody have any idea what you would see if you put such a recorded VHS tape in an ordinary VHS VCR and played it back? Would you just see the ordinary random-signal or no-signal snow, or would you see strange flickers and flashes?
