[net.video] video signal enhancers

I am in the process of making copies of incredibly expensive Japanese
animation tapes that I bought and the results have been poor.
I'm recording from one RCA portable hi-fi VHS to an RCA portable stereo
(non-hi-fi) VHS.

The colors bleed and the sound sucks. Can a good enhancer help?
What is the general consensus comcerning enhancers? I saw a Recoton
enhancer for about $235.00 that someone told me was great. But others
have told me they are a waste of money (the whites turning out blindingly
white is one complaint I've heard).

Any opinions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Enhancers can be used to reduce the degradation inherent in dubing a tape.
But they are not miracle workers and will not salvage a bad tape.

I have both a Vidicraft Detailer III and a Recoton V604 (I think). There
is no comparison. I heartily recommend the Vidicraft (I have been happy
with all of the equipment I have from them). The Recoton is a piece of junk.
It not only does not do any where near as good a job, but the pots get
dirty and have to be cleaned frequently to keep them quiet. (Some weird
chemical reaction going on inside?)
