[net.video] antenna rotor control info wanted...

kevin@ucbvax.BERKELEY.EDU (Wing) (01/02/86)

I have a big antenna with a rotor that I would like to
replace the mechanical control box with an electronic
control. The system is 4 wire. Does anyone know what
the signals are to the rotor? Is there any kind of standard
for such devices, or would my brand (sears, >15 years old)
be a special case? Eventually, I would like to add a timer
so that when using a VCR to do unattended recording, the
antenna could be automatically rotated to the best
location at some programmed time.

Thanks,

Your rotator probably consists of a pair of "selsyn" motors.
You can read all about them in AC machinery texts from the
fifties and sixties. They might still have a few in the basement
of Corey Hall.
