I recently purchased a Sony SL HF900 Super Beta VCR. I've made visual comparisons with my VHS machine. The Super Beta is noticeably superior in picture quality. I've compared the SP (2 hour fastest and best VHS picture with the 4.5 hr Super Beta and Beta is clearer and more detailed. According to the specifications Super Beta is down 0 db at 2 MHz. Can anyone out there give me a reference to where the SL HF900 has been tested in a lab and the results published? Some time ago I asked about copying from VHS to VHS and got little response. While reading the manuel for the Super Beta I got a little tit-bit of information I didn't know. They say that most VCR's rectify the video signal before sending it out on the baseband leads to the video inputs to a TV. They have a switch which prevents this if one is going to go to another recorder. They say that if this is not done then the picture may get much poorer by being rectified twice. Any comment? Thanks for any help, Gary McNees
