I recently purchased two prerecorded videotapes of King Crimson. When I play them on my video system (Panasonic Hi-Fi VHS and NEC receiver/monitor) I get a lot of audio distortion. The VU meter on the VCR stays at or above +1 most of the time and is frequently pegged. This seems to correspond to the audio distortion (just like it would for an audio system 8^) ). My question is whether it is simply a saturated tape that I can't do anything with - other than try to get a [free] replacement from the manufacturer/distributor. Or, is there some way to eliminate the distortion without replacing the tape. Any ideas?
