APL '85, the International APL Conference, will be held May 12-16, 1985
at the Westin Hotel in Seattle, Washington, USA.

The conference will feature presented papers from over 40 authors.  The
topics of the papers fall into the following categories:

  APL in education
  Language extensions
  Applications
  Artificial intelligence
  Teaching APL
  Databases (development and use)
  Large scale application enviroment
  Programming tools and utilities
  Mathematics and statistics
  Compilers and interpreters
  Graphics

Panel discussions with participants from international corporations will
focus on the following topics:

  Corporate application of APL: case studies
  Review of micro computer APL products
  Commercial applications in APL
  Writing interpreters
  Promoting APL
  Graphics applications
  Programming and application development standards

Tutorials at the conference will include the topics:

  APL and GDDM
  Teaching APL2
  Design of APL2
  Developing auxiliary processors

There will also be a PC software exchange.  Attendees are invited to bring
their personally developed, non-copyrighted software for exchange with others
at the conference.  PCs will be made available for this purpose.

A number of prizes will be given out to attendees during the four days.
They include:
  Copies of 
	APL: an interactive approach
	Statistical computing through APL	
	Hackers
  Subscriptions to PC magazine and PC tech journal
  PC software from STSC and I.P. Sharp Assoc.
  An Apmere lap-sized computer.

  Tuesday noon: Dr. Tama Traberman -- Education and the future of APL
  Wednesday banquet:  Andrew Tobias, author -- How to get by on $100000 a year
                                               (and other sad tales)
  Thursday:  Denise Austin, fitness consultant -- Tone up at the terminal

Tuesday evening will include dinner and music on a boat trip on puget sound.

travelers are advised to compare prices flying direct from outside
the U.S. to Seattle, versus flying to a connecting point in the U.S.
and change to United under the special rates.

Monday, May 13, 1985     Opening Session     Adin Falkoff
The Future of APL

Adin has been instrumental in the development of and ongoing
activity for APL since 1960.  He was a member of the Visiting
Faculty at the IBM Systems Research Institute, Visiting Lecturer
in Computer Science at Yale University, and established the IBM
Philadelphia Scientific Center in 1970.  At present Adin is the
Manager of the APL Design Group at IBM's Watson Research Laboratory.

Monday, May 13, 1985     Evening Session      Roy Sykes
The Human APL System

Roy is an expert on the efficient, cost-effective application of APL.
For 13 years he has led the design and development efforts for APL
products at STSC.  His illustration of how APL works by human example
is unique.

Tuesday, May 14, 1985    Luncheon Session     Dr. Tama Traberman
Education and the Future of APL

Tama has been a social science teacher since 1969, and actively
involved with APL in education.  She has conducted workshops on the
use of micro computers in the social sciences, published in Computing
Teaching and Social Education, and lectured at APL '83, and NYC's
SIG APL workshop, APL As A Tool of Thought.

How to Get By on $100,000 A Year (And Other Sad Tales)

Andrew has been seen on TV, published in magazines, authored books, and
authored the micro computer product Managing Your Money.  His book credits
