As promised, here are the results to my "Which Yes is best" survey: No. 1 "Hate" Year Ranking Album Points Votes Votes Released 1 CLOSE TO THE EDGE 131 7 0 1972 2 The Yes Album 92 0 0 1971 3 Going For The One 72.5 1 0 1977 4 Fragile 70 0 0 1972 5 Tales From Topographic Oceans 58 1 0 1973 6 Yes 56 0 0 1969 7 Time And A Word 50 0 0 1970 8 Yessongs 49 1 0 1973 (live) 9 Relayer 36.5 1 1 1974 10 90125 16.5 0 1 1983 11 Yesshows 6 0 0 1980 (live) 12 Tormato -12.5 0 2.5 1978 13 Drama -14 0 3 1980 The points were awarded based on the formula: 15 points for a number 1 vote, 14 points for number 2, 13 for number 3, etc.; no points for an "indifferent" vote or albums that weren't mentioned; -10 points for each "hate" vote. One person called Tormato "fairly shaky", so I counted that as half a hate vote. The live albums are probably better than their ranking indicates because some people listed all of the studio albums, but didn't mention the live ones. One person listed no albums, but said, "the incarnation with Bill was the best by far." Since Bill Bruford played on about half of Yes's albums (all albums up to & including "Yessongs"), I didn't give out any points for that. Each respondent's individual rankings and comments will be available by e-mail for the next couple of weeks, or until our system gets short of disk space, whichever comes first. Mail requests to the net address below. Thanks to the 11 people who responded (12 if you count me). -- Jeff Richardson, DCIEM, Toronto (416) 635-2073 {linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd}!utcsri!dciem!jeff {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!dciem!jeff
