Sighting: Great Blue Heron

Location: Trap Falls Resevoir, Shelton, Conn.

Date: Nov 16, 1982, 08:50.

Remarks: The overnight temperature went down to 22 degrees F.
         Heron seen near fishing near inlet to resevoir.

Does anyone know if it is at all unusual to see herons
this time of year in this area?

The following informations is from Roger Tory Peterson's "A Field Guide to
Birds East of the Rockies" (see map 88):

The Great Blue Heron is an impressive bird to sight, although it is not unusual
to find it in Connecticut (except the NW corner of the state).  In winter,
the Great Blue Heron can be found in coastal states from Maine to Texas, as well
as in roughly the southern third of the U.S. from Texas eastward.
