Since we have had some nice weather here in Chicago for the last couple of days (finally!), I have been able to open some windows! Last night I was treated to the cries of a pair of Killdeers that have taken up residence in the horse pasture behind my house. Has anyone else seen any Killdeers? I think they are beautiful birds; with sandy brown bodies, and brown and white striped heads. I love to watch them run, but they are really fun to watch fly. These two chase each other aroud the pasture all evening, finally quitting about an hour after sundown. I think that they will build their nest in the field, but I am not sure. Can anyone confirm this? Ron Lewen ....ihpn4!tellab1!rcl <---------------------------------------------------------------->

********** Killdeers do nest on the ground. When they are nesting the female will do a very convincing broken wing act to lure an intruder away from the nest. When I grew up in northern Indiana and central Illinois these birds where fairly common.
