A couple of days back, I asked if anyone had a copy of an interesting quote I remembered. Unfortunately, it appears that the exact version I saw is now lost to history; however, two correspondents did shed some light on the subject. I've enclosed their letters below. *********************************** From: cmcl2!salkind I didn't realize the computer center at Princeton published that. I went to Princeton, and saw this quote attached to the Sigma-2 computer in the basement of the physics building (the cyclotron). The quote was from the software support group for the Sigma-2 (one of those great old Xerox machines) and appeared (I believe) in one of their bug fix reports/updates. Lou *********************************** From: azure!stevenm Here is the copy that I have. I have no idea of its origin, as I found it tapes to the wall near an abandoned desk near where I work. It had been typed by hand. Let me know if you find the source. "We have not succeeded in solving all of your problems. The answers we have found only serve to raise a whole new set of questions. In some ways we are as confused as ever, but we feel that we are confused on a higher level and about more important things." S. McGeady *********************************** Cleary, Steve McGeady has found the original version; it's close to what I remembered, but not exactly it. The most memorable part - "we are confused on a higher level and about more important things" - is there... -- Jerry decvax!yale-comix!leichter leichter @ yale
