With a little help from the airbrush department, _Newsweek_ magazine
has brought its readers some kinder, gentler U.S. Military Police. An
Associated Press photo of MPs restraining Iraqi prisoners of war was
accurately reproduced in the _New York Times_ and in _Newsday_,
according to the media watchdog publication _Lies of Our Times_, which
also ran the photo on its March cover. But missing from _Newsweek's_
March 4 cover were the original grimace and "lines of pain" that
appeared on the face of one of the Iraqi captives.

The geography keeps changing, but the story stays the same. The Santa
Monica-based Empowerment Project (EP) is poised to release the
_Invasion of Panama_, a chronicle of the December 1989 "Operation Just
Cause" and its aftermath. The documentary examines the motivations
behind the invasion, comparing it to the Gulf war and other U.S.
interventions. The EP, which also produced _COVERUP: Behind the Iran
contra Affair_, is circulating sample reels of the Panama documentary
and plans to release the film alter this spring. For more information,
call the EP at (213) 828 - 8807
