Jun 07  The Head of the Armed Forces, General Luis Alonso Discua,
        said today that he is confident of President Callejas'
        economic adjustment policies.  He also warned of an
        increase in drug trafficking in Honduras, and denied any
        conflict between the Honduran and Salvadorean military.

    -   The National Association of Honduran Campesinos (ANACH)
        issued a statement declaring that the Armed Forces are
        protecting Col. Leonel Galindo, the alleged instigator of
        the Agua Caliente massacre on May 3rd, and are not
        interested in pursuing justice in the case. (LT)

    -   The Rector of the National Autonomous University of
        Honduras (UNAH), Jorge Omar Casco, has condemned the
        intervention of the International Monetary Fund in
        education, which has forced reduction of post-secondary
        funding to permit adequate funding of elementary schools.

    -   Adherents of the Platform of Struggle to Democratize
        Honduras (Plataforma de Lucha) mounted a massive protest
        yesterday in San Pedro Sula in solidarity with striking
        Beverage Workers Union (STIBYS). They demanded respect for
        human rights and condemned the high cost of living.

    -   President Callejas said that the new agreement signed
        between Honduras and the International Monetary Fund will
        guarantee a favourable future for Honduras.  The agreement
        will attract up to 1,800 million dollars in foreign
        financing over the next three years. (T)

Jun 08  Honduras may lose hundreds of millions of dollars in
        export products as a result of import-tax reductions
        agreed to by the European Economic Community and Columbia,
        Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. (T)

Jun 10  Luis Antonio Loyala, a representative from the
        Panamerican Health Organization (O.P.S.), says that a
        third of all infant deaths in Honduras are due to
        diahrrea.  (T)

    -   Six unions in the free zone of the port of Cortes
        announced plans for solidarity actions in support of Trans
        Pacific Garment Workers. (T)

    -   The STIBYS beverage workers strike ended today with an
        agreement for no lay-offs, retraction of the declaration
        that the strike was illegal, no wage-reductions, and
        guarantees of compliance with the law. (LT)

    -   The National Association of Industrialists of Honduras
        (ANDI) accused the government of provoking the "deliberate
        death of production" with the reduction of customs duties.

Jun 11  The Ministry of Labour budget has been reduced by 600
        thousand Lempiras, and within days 400 workers will have
        to be laid off. (LT)

    -   The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights in Honduras
        (CODEH) has issued its first trimester report of '9l,
        covering January to April.  It indicates that human rights
        violations have increased, and documents 3 political
        murders, 20 homicides due to abuse of power (16 of which
        were committed by the military), 863 attempts against
        people the majority of whom were campesionos, 42 cases of
        torture, and 222 illegal detentions. (T)
