CUANES Alert 6-16-91         (Alert 312)

On Saturday, June 15, 1991 between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., 22 people
were captured by the National Police in the town of Santo Tomas,
department of San Salvador, while they were attending a course on
administration at a training center.  Eleven of those captured were
from the repatriated community of Nuevo Gualcho in the department of
Usulutan.  The names of those from Nuevo Gualcho are as follows:

Walter Osbaldo Marroquin
Elias Palacio
Elmer Jose Palacio
Maria Isabel Bonilla
Juventino Arenibas Escobar
Miguel Angel Castro
Carlos Analeto Jiminez
Adaberto Alvarado
Mauricio de Jesus Hernandez

The reason for the captures is still undetermined.  There is serious
concern for the physical safety of those being held at the National
Police.
