Your bird may have been a female cowbird-though February is very early
for it in Illinois. Have you looked at any of the grosbeaks?
I originally come from Rockford, but lived in Waukegan and Libertyville
for awhile, before moving on the the West.
My brother, Lee Johnson, still lives in Rockford. You might call him
about your bird at815-962-7577. He can maybe help with your bird.
Mannerism is correct usage of the word in this case.
Starlings do have white spots in winter.
