We have started an alternative newspaper at Iowa State called the Drummer. (Named after the Drummers in Lafayette park who were an "incessant noise" and kept Bush up at night during the war.) Our first issue was well received on campus and we have begun a fund raising drive. We will need about $7,000/year to print the newspaper. Does anyone know of any foundations that fund alternative newspapers? The right-wing paper on campus seems to get all kinds of money for computers and printing expenses. Are there comparable funders on the left? Also I would like to hear about other alternative papers how they operate, how they raise money, do they run advertisements ( a BIG debate in our group)?
