[net.rec.birds] spring

prs@lanl.ARPA (04/08/85)

It may finally be spring here at 7500 feet in New Mexico. The first T.V.'s
(turkey vulture) arrived here April 4. They are the harbinger of spring
at this latitude.
The annual meeting of the New Mexico Ornithological Society will
be in Las Cruces on May 20-21. See you there!

Despite the generally wintery appearance of the world in upstate NY,
a couple of recent sightings have convinced me that spring is on the
way. Last week I identified a blue-gray gnatcatcher - first I've seen
outside of my native Florida. While geese have been flying north for
a month, this is more convincing! Also, when down in Ithaca a week ago,
I saw my first wild turkey (in the wild, that is). A magnificent beast!
Good watching,
Nemo
