[comp.society.development] articles needed for 3rd world & computing

dab@moxie.moxie.oswego.edu (David Alan Bozak) (06/28/91)

hello,

I teach a course, sort of a computer tools and society course, in
which I would like to include material on the various impacts of
computer use in third world countries. I am looking for some current
articles that I can put on reserve for students to read as well as
some longer articles that I can build lectures from.
The course is a freshman level course and I have had them reading
articles from various trade and technical journals so that they can
get an understanding of the use of computers and the potential
problems with the use of computers in a variety of areas - elections,
telecommuting, networking, and so on.
I have received some feedback on this request posted on comp.misc,
comp.edu and comp.society. How I ever missed comp.society.development
is beyond me! So, I know about a mail list, devel-l, "Computers in
Africa" and some articles from InfoJapan'90, an article by Bypass in
"Computer Bulletin", and a few other, more obscure references.
If anyone has any pointers to articles, printed or electronic,
please drop me a line. Thanks.
