My fiancee breeds and shows English Budgerigars (Budgies).
She also knows quite a bit about the care of birds and about treating
them for a number different diseases.
She would be glad to answer questions about the subject through me.
She now currently has over 100 budgies of the American variety (parakeet)
and the English variety (pet stores often refer to this type as fancy
parakeets).
American budgies are smaller and a little more intelligent than English.
English are larger of course with a wider forehead and are usually
considered to be much prettier.
Beth Anne (my fiancee) recommends the American variety as pets if
you are interested in a bird that will talk. They also are much more
friendlier and can become as attached as a dog to their owner.
Mine loves to sit on my shoulder and talk to me, although she still
cannot speak very well (she's really trying though).
English are more difficult to train and rarely talk. They are however
a very pretty bird, and are really the only type of budgie shown.
(through the ABS - American Budgerigar Society)
If anyone is interested in the subject please feel free to post
articles. I will try to answer all your questions.
If anyone else out there is into this hobby I would be interested in
hearing from you.
It will help increase traffic for net.rec.birds too!
