----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear SCO Open Desktop Developer:

It's Time for the Stars on our Platform to Take a Bow!

SCO announces the first SCO Open Desktop Products of the Year Contest

It takes exceptional applications, development tools, and peripherals to make
the SCO Open Desktop platform an industry standard. That's why SCO is holding
a contest to select and promote the very best products developed for SCO Open
Desktop. At this year's SCO Forum at the University of California, Santa Cruz,
we plan to put these outstanding products in the industry spotlight at a
special awards ceremony.

All application programs, development tools, and peripherals designed to take
advantage of SCO Open Desktop's integrated system services are eligible for
entry in the SCO Open Desktop Products of the Year Contest.

SCO will accept contest entries in the following product categories:

Business Applications
Engineering Applications
Special Purpose Applications
Peripheral/Hardware Products
Software Development Tools

Our independent panel of judges will select three finalists from each
category, based on written entries (see official entry form attached).
That sets the stage for final judging at SCO Forum91, where finalists will
demonstrate their products for the judges. A representative from each
finalist's organization will receive free admission to SCO Forum91 (housing
and transportation not included) in order to participate in final judging and
the award ceremony. One winner will be selected from each category.

What You Can Win:

The winner from each category will be awarded:

SCO Open Desktop Product of the Year plaque
SCO Open Desktop Product of the Year logo for use in advertisements
Mention in SCO Open Desktop promotions to SCO channels
Participation in SCO Open Desktop Partner activities
Press Coverage
Coverage in DiSCOver, SCO's Newsletter and Technical Bulletin

How We'll Judge the Winners:

Our independent panel of judges will consider a number of factors in selecting
the 15 finalists from the written entries. These criteria include product
description, use of SCO Open Desktop's integrated services, innovative
features, market position, and business strategy. This first round of judging
will account for 40% of a product's total score.

Judging of the finalists at SCO Forum91 will account for 60% of the product's
score and will cover product packaging, documentation, ease of use, marketing
collateral (where applicable), and -- most important of all -- a product
demonstration lasting no more than ten minutes, by which the judges will make
their final decision.

Prepare Your Entries Now!

SCO Forum91 is approaching fast, so now's the time to prepare your entries.

To qualify, written contest entries must be received by SCO Developer
Relations no later than June 28, 1991. SCO will notify finalists by July 31.
Contest events at SCO Forum91 will include final judging on August 20, and the
SCO Open Desktop Products of the Year Contest awards ceremony on August 21.

You've already targeted the industry's most powerful and compatible open
system platform. Don't miss this chance to spotlight your product at SCO
Forum91!
