[comp.org.acm] CACM Why this "improved" design

koeneman@paul.rutgers.edu (Juergen Koenemann) (06/18/91)

I agree with all those who complain about the new CACM "style" and
confirm that many of the people I know stopped reading it.

Especially bad are these new titlepages, starting on even pages,
with large illustrations, the author's names hidden...
Today I realized WHY they did it during an attempt to xerox an
article. It's almost impossible and a waste of paper. Retrieving
one in your file folders is even worse. Thus my conclusion:
CACM articles are deliberately presented in a way that
discourages xeroxing and archiving and retrival
in order to force people to buy ACM Press books with
articles reprinted in a normal scientific useful way

Or CACM are just meant to be coffee table browsing material ??
