Christmas Counts for New Mexico: Christmas Count season is past; hope everyone had a good 'un. Santa Fe, NM got 56 with another 5 (!) curve-billed thrashers. Espanola had its on the 29th and got a low species count of 56, probably because of the warm weather. The rarest were 4 merlins and 2 northern shrikes. Exciting was an adult bald eagle that soared over the Rio Grande. Also 59 CAnada Geese heading north and a high of 150 or more mallards. Many species usually present were in low numbers or absent.
