If you are looking for a statically linked version of InterViews 3.0 for your Sun 4, a precompiled and linked distribution is available for anonymous FTP from soda.berkeley.edu (128.32.131.179). It is approximately 7 MB in size. soda.berkeley.edu:pub/IV.3.0.sun4.res.tar.Z This is the result of David N. Blank <dnb@media-lab.media.mit.edu>. Here is a copy of the README file included in the distribution: Howdy- This is a version of InterViews 3.0 installed directory containing the IV binaries and other supporting files. I wanted to be able to run IV binaries on a machine which did not have the IV or C++ shared libraries on it. As a result, I have built the binaries so that they are dynamically linked to the X11 and C shared libs only. This means bigger binaries, but you get portability (and a chance to be alliterative). However, there is some fine print (without the font change): This is built with a resolver library (post-4.8 version of BIND called utbind, from neat.ai.toronto.edu:pub/utbind.tar.Z) statically linked in. This means that name resolution is done solely through DNS (a /etc/resolv.conf must be present). I would have also rolled a version which uses the (slightly broken) Sun resolver library which does NIS resolution as well, but there is a problem with this. The Sun library is compiled with the -pic switch which is incompatible with the -PIC switch that I was forced to use to compile some of the larger programs. C'est la vie. Good luck with the InterViews! Peace, David N. Blank dnb@media-lab.media.mit.edu -- Case Larsen clarsen@intruder.lbl.gov
