I recently purchased a young grey cockatiel (about 3 months old) and training seems to be coming along fine. He is hand tamed, takes food from peoples hand and hops onto my finger from his perch in his cage. I want to teach him to fly to me from across the room and I don't really know how to go about it other than to start with shorter distances. I would appreciate any help from someone who has done this before. Also, in the future I am interested in starting to breed cockatiels, any information on this would also be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance, -scott -- Scott K. In reagrds to your question of "flying to you from some point where you are not". I strongly suggest that the best way to get your Cockatiel to come to you is, "IT TAKES TIME", it seems that you and you bird friend are getting very attached to each other. One of things that I have learned from training pets, is that the best place that your pet can be is on your hand, by your side (dogs) or in your lap (cats). If you can get this across to your Cockatiel you have won the fight. For example, when your bird sees that you have your right index finger held up in the air it says to him/her, alright it is time for a treat (favorite snack, scratching under his beak, whatever he likes the best.) I hope that this will help some in your endevours for a tamed/trained bird. -- ^ / \ / \ ^ JC / \---------^----------/ \------------------------------------------------- / \ ^ / \ / \ When You climb high, remember that \/ \ / \ ^ / \ the beauty you see is only an illusion \ \/ \ / \/ \ created by God to keep your sanity. ___________\_/_______\___\________\_____________________________________________
