Atari has announced the 5200 Home Video Game System. It is a game playing gadget like the current atari, but it provides much higher quality graphics for the home television set. The unit was shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, and the graphic quality seems to be more in line with the Atari 400 and 800 computers, although there is no way for the user to program the 5200. The unit includes improved controllers (more like Mattel's) with push buttons and a combination paddle/joystick control. It is a much slicker looking unit on top of everything. Announced software includes Asteroids and PacMan, plus soon to come Baseball, Galaxians, and Star Raiders. Also, Atari and Lucas have signed an agreement to do a cartridge based on "Raiders of tLA".
