I tend to go along with Eric Schwartz's (NYU) view (at least for vision) that attention is is controlled by crude-but-quick pattern recognition -- we have a very limited area of visual acuity and limited concentrated processing power and must use this for two opposite needs: attending to detail and monitoring as much of visual space as possible -- so that we don't get eaten while engaged in reading. Attention is the trick that allows us to have a continuous, whole percept of a world viewed through small, discontinuous windows. -- >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< Gary Bradski I'net: bradski@park.bu.edu Center for Adaptive Systems \ / Boston University. -- -- 111 Cummington St, Boston MA 02215 / \ I don't even agree with some of my opinions >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) >) (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (< (<
