Onder" <TAINT021@YSUB.YSU.EDU> To: Coherent Digest <coherent> Subject: Logging into MWC BBS I was wondering if it is possible to log into the MWC BBS from a Unix system other than Coherent. I have access to a Unix system at the university and I am here more than at home. I have never logged into the BBS from home because I do not have a modem. I appreciate any help that can be given. Thank You! Sincerely, David M. Onder YSU Computer Center Information Center Analyst ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Apr 91 10:37:30 EST From: sje@bubba.ma30.bull.com (Steven J. Remember that you will probably need your Coherent serial number as one of the entries in the Permissions file. ------------------------------ Date: 02 Apr 91 14:06:44 EST From: Stephane Doucet <73207.1247@CompuServe.COM> To: <coherent> Subject: Misc. Hi again, Well...thanks to all who answered...I'm new to UNIX/Coherent and that is what got me with UUCP. You folks were right and the sitename was f1 over at MWC and not F1. Duh! Fixed all that and UUCP dials merrily in and out of mwcbbs (except this past Easter weekend). I have configured the profiles to reflect last login time and to post whether there is system news available. I am currently trying to get somekind of mail-reader working...one where you can keep a listing of undeleted mail and one where you can REPLY to mail or also FORWARD. Does CoMB do this? How difficult is it to use remotely? I am running COherent 3.1...do I have to make a fix to have my users use Kermit to transfer files remotely from their terminals to and from COherent? Also...I will be looking to get a UUCP connection here in town. Can I work at it with the present system or must I install SMAIL? What is the best way to look for a host system? - -Stephane (f1!sdoucet on mwcbbs) ------------------------------ Date: 04 Apr 91 13:09:31 EST From: Stephane Doucet <73207.1247@CompuServe.COM> To: <coherent> Subject: re: MISC and UUNET Well...I got Kermit to work fine. :) Was easier than I thought. I just always initiate the transfer on the Coherent side and then use either 'kermit sahilb' or 'kermit rxhilb' depending whether on I want to send or receive. I used MSKermit v3.10 on the PC (terminal) end of things. I transfered text back and forth and DOS executables with no problems. :) Now I'll start getting the source for CoMB...if mwcbbs can stay up for one bloody night! :) Every time I setup cron to download something then either the phone is busy or something is wrong on their end. Soon... And now if I get hooked up to uunet, I don't need SMAIL? Thats good. I'll get a uunet map from CompuServe's UNIX forum. - -Stephane ------------------------------ Date: 7 Apr 91 05:53:48 From: root%trystro.uucp@Think.COM (Richard Nickle) To: coherent Subject: cnewsp1.tar.Z uploaded to piggy Hi, I've uploaded a bunch of extra stuff for the cnews distribution uploaded last week to piggy. If you haven't already gotten cnews, get this first. Contains: Install a replacement for the slightly erronous version of Install previously posted. use this instead of the Install in cnews.tar.Z if you've already installed it, reinstall everything (ouch) with this script. for some reason i was using libsmall instead of libbig and it introduced subtle errors (i had these errors for a week before i traced it back to libsmall. recmail.tar support for posting in rn, thanks to Rick Kelly the compiled version goes into /usr/lib/news/recmail inews a working version of the /usr/lib/newsbin/inject/inews script. the previous one didn't work. this is a replacement, and you need to make a link to /usr/lib/news/inews newsetup a replacement script for rn's newsetup should replace /usr/local/bin/newsetup You might see more little patches and/or additions to the cnews distribution in this format as more problem reports come back from people getting the package up and running. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Apr 91 13:57:06 EDT From: Jake Richards <JRICHARD@gwuvm.gwu.edu> To: Coherent <coherent> Subject: Postscript printers and Coherent I am a real rookie at *nix, but since I can't find the answer myself, I figure I can embarass myself here publicly. Does anyone know of a way to drive a Postscript printer from Coherent? I tried a process called THACK that alleged to do that, but it turns out garbage that simply spews forth blank paper. I'm not desparate, as the printer in question is an HP Laserjet with a cartridge, so I can still get output, but would really like to get to the Postscript features :-). ------------------------------ End of Coherent Digest Vol. 91.2, No. 2 *************************************** -- Scott Rose rose@cs.wisc.edu (608) 238-3801
