I once announced that WNEWS 3.0 from NLMUG (Minix User Group, Netherlands) is portable to Coherent. (I still wait for a diskette with the CNEWS for COherent) I now have experience with CNEWS for about 14 months and my opinion is that WNEWS is all you need to receive/post news. Ok, in the package there is no news reader, just a utility to post news. I think that a lot of people are interested in a small news system for there Coherent machine. I used WNEWS and the News reader TASS (just posted) and fed them with Megabytes of compressed news. All things seem to work, the only thing I didn't try is what happens when a control message is received. But the files should work, I saw no "dangerous" parts in the files. Whole WNEWS is compressed just 120 K., as a shar-File 230 k (I heard a rumour that cnews/Co is compressed 1.1 MB) I won't post it to this group because I was told this is a discussion group and promised to never post sources here. In some weeks or months there should be a new version in the other discussion group, called comp.os.minix. (.os.: often sources ? operating system ?) As time goes by there will be updates to Cnews ( I am going to bring it up to the latest patch dates ), and we need an area for posting such things.
