Someone was asking about ESDI and about the i386 version etc. etc. so I thought I'd give this news thing a try and see if I could man- age to send news as well as read it. I guess it worked. Anyway, I just dropped my check in the mail for release 3.1 a few days ago, but not before calling them and bothering them some more. (I say more because I also got lots of info from a guy named Norm at their e-mail address for info.: uunet!mwc!info Norm was very helpful) The woman I spoke to on the phone told me the department in charge of such things told the people in charge of the phones it would probably be about 6 months until the i386 version comes out. (and we all know what that means; better add some time on to that) But in the mean time... Norm wrote to me about my numerous complaints for more BSD features with the encouraging news that hopefully some time in June there will be a switch from the Bourne shell to the Korn shell. :) Personally, that didn't mean much, but I was informed that that meant such goodies as a history would be implemented. Oh, about ESDI, according to the current brochure, it supports it. About the on-going debate over what to do about sources. I like the idea of putting them somewhere else, but I feel like everytime I read the news most the articles are about whether or not there should be a new subdir created. Unless the actual talk about Coherent picks up it seems a difficult situation. If people out there start talking more about important stuff compared to the amount of time spent arguing, I'd say "two thumbs up." And to all of you heavy duty Coherent users that know all the ins and outs of system programming etc etc, please don't forget to speak enough English and give enough explanation on how to do some of the stuff that gets thrown around out here that little people like myself don't get lost. There are actually people out here (well, at least one anyway) that have never downed a source from a newsgroup and pasted it together or worse yet tried to patch something that wasn't originally meant for Coherent. Thanks for listening. - Todd Ruth TRuth@UCSD.edu "And that's the TRuth"
