I am connected through the local university network, and wish to run UUCP on my computer. I need to know the following before I try this: I assume the protocol Coherent uucp uses is "g", right? Will uucp work over a line which uses xon-xoff for flow control, or does uucico put the tty into raw mode and use xon-xoff as data? The connection I have is more like a modem. I send a few CR's to autobaud, then I get a DIAL: prompt. I then enter the address I wish to connect to, and everything should work after that. Yes, currently that is the uucp protocol everybody supports. >Will uucp work over a line which uses xon-xoff for flow control, or does >uucico put the tty into raw mode and use xon-xoff as data? uucp assumes that all characters (xon and xoff too) are data characters. They should not be used for line control. uucp uses short packets anyway, so I would not worry about you network being overrun. If you start to see lots of errors, reduce your line speed. >The connection I have is more like a modem. I send a few CR's to autobaud, >then I get a DIAL: prompt. But I have had many problems with coherent receiving uucp calls. So I now only go the other way (unix calls coherent) to keep testing the software. Most of the bugs that prevented incoming calls have been fixed in the newer (post 3/1/91) uucp binaries. you chat script would look something like Null in cr pause cr Make sure of case "" \r\d\r DIAL:-DIAL: (hostname) login:-login (userid) .... ------ Copyright (C) 1991, Geoffrey S.
