Here is a curiosity question. Are most people starting "swapper" from /etc/rc when booting their Coherent systems? From installing 3.1.0, "swapper" is NOT automatically installed. Has anyone seen good reasons to install it or not to install it (i.e. performance reasons)?

Normally the driver for the swap-device is not in the 3.1.0-package I have. I later found it in the device driver kit. Several months ago I found an article in a newsgroup or in the mailing list written by Norman Bartek (MWC) that normally you'll never need the swap-device because all programs are so small and should fit into memory without swapping. If you have a 386 with a minimum of 2 MB I'm sure you now won't need it. So buy cheap memory and use the hd space for swap device for filling up with software. Joachim PS: It'ts difficult to do a followup because Tass and NN always assume as newsgroup your internet address. +---------------------------------------+-------+-------------------+-------+ | Joachim Riedel | @ @ | Don't worry, | @ @ | | Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse 48 | \_/ | keep smiling | \_/ | | D-6050 Offenbach am Main +-------+-------------------+-------+ | Tel. +49 69 85 62 25 | joachim@jrix.radig.de | +---------------------------------------+-----------------------------------+
