Subject: SMAIL

HI all,
Yeah...I gave up with CoMB but I do have a question about smail.
My host to Internet was complaining that my header information is
incomplete. The first part of the address says from sdoucet@f1link.OCUnix
.ON.Ca but the top part of it says from f1link!sdoucet. Where is this
address getting generated? I changed the HOSTNAME entry in the smail defs.h
file to something else which changed the along with the first part...but
the f1link!sdoucet was still there. Where else is this name stored?

The following is a simple BINARY alternative to the screen
program. It is uuencoded. Cut as indicated, save as a file
(e.g. tmp) and use uudecode tmp. It will only run on a
286/386 Coherent machine.
X--------------- cut here -----------X
begin 755 scrn
0&ULR2AM;-#1M&ULU-VT*"@ :

end
X----------------cut here -----------X
The output will be a file scrn, which, if you use (Coherent's)
od scrn, command will produce:
0000000 1b5b 324a 1b5b 3434 6d1b 5b35 376d 0a0a
0000020
Note this merely serves as a check; o(ctal)d(ump) on i8086
is ofcourse hex.
Using scrn will change your background to blue, and foreground
(text) to white. Several other commands (e.g., vi, me or less)
change it back to monochrome. I don't no how to control this...

Subject: A new version of less

I just put a new version of less (177) on the MWC bbs. It required almost
nothing to get running on COH 3.1, but what few things I needed to do are
documented.

Subject: c compiler weirdness

I am posting this for john while he debugs smail 2.5 on his system .. Rob.

John writes:

I have run into the dreaded:
"Ld: can't relocat object with separate I/D" error
while trying to compile a program. Someone once posted a
note explaining what that particular error meant but I
have lost a lot of old mail in a disk crackup.
If anyone remembers this or knows what I haver run into
assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.
