I'm using Coherent 3.1 on a 286-12 system with 4MB of memory, and a 2400 baud modem on COM1 and a 1200 baud on COM2. I'm having problems with the COM1 & COM2 drivers, especially after my system calls out for its uucp connection. Sometimes the TR isn't set properly so the modem doesn't answer the phone, other times the modem is left in echo mode so it sends the "connect" message and calls can't get through. I also occasionally get the slow output problem that I thought was cured with 3.1, that is, the caller connects at 2400 baud but the text comes out at 300 baud speed and the caller can't type anything. I wrote a script which disables the modems, does a kill quit, then enables the modem and this usually fixes the problem. It also happens at other times for normal callers. I'm trying to run a BBS with Coherent and everything works well except this one major glitch. I can't have the system randomly going down. Any help would be appreciated.. PS. can anyone explain why "exec sh" causes the console to lock up?
