Meiotic markers.
A colleague, Nick Vorsa, is interested in identifying markers for
meiotic abnormalities in species of Vaccinium including cultivat-
ed cranberry and blueberry. It occurred to us that there may be
some Arabidopsis probes for identifying genes that regulate
different stages in meiosis. Examples of mutants in maize are
ameiotic (am-1 and -2), absence of first division (afd), asynap-
tic (as), desynaptic (dys), and variable sterile mutants (va-1
and -2) which appear to be associated with cytokinesis. Nick and
I would be interested in exchanging ideas on the utility of
Arabidopsis probes as a tool for exploring the regulation of
meiosis.
